Vidwest incorporated as a nonprofit in March, 2019. Our mission is to advance the art of cinematic storytelling in Missouri and to serve Columbia’s growing grassroots media community. We support our vision by:
Organizing storytelling events (e.g. film showcases with locally made content)
Educating youth and adults by teaching media skills at workshops and day camps
Operating a public access channel with local programming
Providing affordable studio space and equipment to all city residents
OUR STORY
The lived experiences of ALL in our community deserve a platform, particularly those who are not traditionally heard. We believe strong community media is critical to elevating a chorus of voices, whether that means producing a television show, recording a music album or shooting a photography session. All of these arts create “a campfire” where anyone can gather to tell a story and to respectfully listen and to learn from others. We strongly believe our community needs these connections now more than ever.
